2009-2010 Dream Angel Magnet Dolls

After learning that the dolls made in 2008 had "questionable" proportions, I started looking for a way to improve them. While wandering around Michael's one day, I happened to find a Disney Princess paper doll who was magnetic. I thought, "What if I made my dolls like that?" With that thought in mind, I went hunting for magnetic sheets that can be printed on. I found a box of three 8 1/2"X11" sheets and with a squeal of delight, set myself to the task of making an all-new collection of dolls better than the 2008 sets.

After many failures for Arora herself, I finally decided that I'd make use of an example in an old She-Ra paper doll of my sister's. With She-Ra's help proportionally and a few adjustments to suit myself, the first doll is ready. It took me another two weeks to finalize the details of the remaining outfits for the first set. That's now one doll, two outfits. Her second set, just as painstakingly created, has taken close to a month to finalize.

In the meantime, I managed (with a lot of help) to gain a better understanding of perspective drawing. With that under my belt, I set myself about the task of finding a means of storing these dolls that would be better than plastic page protectors or ziploc bags. Dad was the one who found that solution: scrap booking tins. Three days of arguing with acrylic paints later, that is ready. To my sheer and utter surprise, all that work paid off on Ashley's 7th birthday. Though she doesn't have the complete collection and tin, she does adore the doll and her first two outfits to the best of my knowledge.

Christmas 2009 Ashley's collection was completed with a slight look of puzzlement until I explained to her that she had the doll and that the tin was to store the dresses and doll. Though at first she thought the tin was a lunch box, she got the idea and not having the doll around to play with, set the tin aside with the outfits inside but still appreciated the work involved I believe.

Price

Sadly, this collection won't come cheap. Considering the fact that the tin is hand-painted, each doll and outfit hand rendered before being scanned, the magnet sheets aren't very cheap and the tins aren't cheap, I have to make my price match. Considering the tins are normally $6.99 and I haven't found them cheaper, the magnet sheets are another $6.99, printer ink, and all the painstaking work to make these dolls and tins the absolute best possible to my ability, a fair price per collection, which would be one hand-painted tin, a doll and two outfits would have to be $20 plus shipping. All things considered, I hope everyone will agree it's a fair price. Outfit sets will have a set price of $15, because they won't come with a tin. They would be stored with their respective characters in the tins they came with.

Please note: this is a complete set of magnet dolls. This is MDA001 and MDA002 together, each set is sold individually to help keep my prices low.

Constructive and polite comments always welcome!

 MDA001 Arora Arum/Dream Angel:

Paypal is quite secure, I can assure you of that. I hope with the addition of this new button, my magnet dolls will rise in popularity!

Full description of MDA001:

This attractive new set comes with one doll, two outfits and a hand painted tin. Yes, each tin is hand painted and signed by me, the artist/ website administrator. Arora's tin is painted sky blue with streaky clouds and the lid is painstakingly painted with a lovely city scene in very nice perspective for play. The doll and her outfits will stick to anything magnetic including a refrigerator and are home printed and laminated for protection. Each doll is cut out of the original printed sheet by hand. The original doll and outfits were hand rendered in watercolor pencil, making the dolls even more unique.

These are my original magnetic characters dolls and outfit designs, if you find them being sold anywhere else, they're being sold illegally.

MDA002:

These are the rest of Arora's outfits. This set does not come with the hand painted tin, only the doll herself comes with the tin intended to store these outfits. Magnificently hand rendered (if I do say so myself) in watercolor pencil, scanned at a very high resolution and printed lovingly on magnetic sheets are three more outfits. From left to right in the image above: could this be? A new form for Dream Angel herself? It might be, but I won't say a word! You'll have to read her stories to find out. The second is excellent for a lovely night on the town or perhaps a dinner party of some kind. The third is worn to a dinner party, but I'm not saying anything further or I risk spoiling a good storyline. Breezer, who happens to be in her arms, attends with her, though.

Price for this set is $15, which I believe is fair given the work involved.

More dolls coming soon!!

Blue Nite Soldier and Nyxus are well underway. Look forward to their appearance here! Dream Angel's got to have her main squeeze and a villain to beat up, right? Since I have over 30 different characters, expect them to slowly appear here with paypal buttons for safe, secure purchase.

Disclaimers

While these dolls can be for all ages, I strongly recommend that for childeren under 3, strict supervision by an adult is invloved for play. Besides, that means parents can play too. I do my very best to prevent any corners from being sharp, but it could be possible to get a papercut or other injury from these. That's most certainly not my intention. My intention is to make these dolls enjoyable for all ages as long as parents take appropriate safety precautions for younger children. I will not be held responsible for any injury caused by this product if a parent does not take appropriate action to prevent harm in the first place.

As an example, at 2 1/2 years old, I allowed my nephew Luke to play with these dolls and I played with him. Since these dolls are magnetic, he could do nothing to hurt them and they could do nothing to hurt him. He quite enjoyed playing with the dolls in fact. I was right there with him to make sure he didn't get hurt and nothing happened besides his having fun.

Thus I will say that parents who buy this product for a child under the age of 3 should play with the child who plays with the dolls as a safety measure. There are no small parts and corners are rounded for safety, but it's still better for parents to play with the child if the child is under the age of 3.
